Health & Wellbeing

“To ensure everyone has a common understanding of wellbeing, the Scottish Government introduced eight indicators, often referred to by their initial letters, SHANARRI. For children to reach their full potential they should have opportunities to become successful learners, confident individuals, effective contributors and responsible citizens and supporting each wellbeing indicator will help make this happen.” PlayWell Scotland Pack

As a school, we have introduced the Play Well Wellbeing Buddies and refer to them regularly at our weekly assemblies to ensure that all children are aware of the Wellbeing Indicators.

At St Andrews Primary School, we work hard to provide a nurturing environment for our pupils. We work hard to develop positive relationships with our pupils as we know that this is central to both learning and wellbeing.

The 6 Nuturing Principles are outlined in the poster below:

Emotion Works is an educational programme that focuses on Emotional Wellbeing, language and understanding.

“The Emotion Works educational programme is ‘home grown’ in Scotland so is very well aligned to the Scottish Curriculum and related policies such as ‘Getting it Right for Every Child’ (GIRFEC).” – Emotion Works website

At St Andrews Primary, teachers and staff regulary refer to the Emotion Works cogs and characters in order to support pupils to develop Emotional Literacy and boost resilience.
